02/08/2011 Flex Test Drive for Mobile - Build a mobile application in an hour

Meeting Notes:

The New Year is upon us and with that some major changes are happening to the Cleveland Adobe User Group and the Cleveland ColdFusion User Group. We are excited about the future of both groups and have some major announcements we would like to discuss with our members.

We plan to shift our focus from two different groups to a single Adobe Web Development User Group with a wide range of topics. If you or anyone you know is interested in participating in a user group that focuses on web design and development, we encourage you to come to this meeting. We want to hear from you on what topics you're interested in learning more about and ideas you might have on how we could better promote the group. Please join us on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, and help us grow this group into something we can all be excited about.

After this meeting and all future meetings we will be meeting over at the Winking Lizard on Rockside Road. It's a nice chance to get out of the classroom setting, relax and talk shop with people who share your interests. Even if you're not interested in this month's topic I think you will enjoy chatting it up with the other users from the group.

See You Tuesday!

Presentation Notes:

We will watch a video presentation of the test drive tutorial. In this tutorial you will learn how to use the mobile development features of Flash Builder and the Flex SDK to easily create applications for mobile devices. The application we will be creating is an employee directory application that connects live data, lets you browse and search for employees and also lets you add/edit their information.

09/28/2010 Flash Catalyst, Flash CS5, and the Developer/Designer Workflow

Join us for an introduction to Flash Catalyst as we touch on some of the features of the program, how it relates to Flash Professional, and I'll discuss the pros and cons of using Flash Catalyst vs the Flash IDE.

Flash Catalyst is a new application from Adobe that tries to bridge the gap between designers with static mockups and programers writing functioning applications. Photoshop, Fireworks, and Illustrator will now export to a file format that Catalyst can pickup and run with, giving an easy to use interface for turning artwork into functional application buttons, lists, and more with ease.

If you're completely new to Flash Catalyst feel free to check out Adobe's site which explains a bit about the program, what it creates, and why you should care.

This meeting will be a joint meeting with the Cleveland Flash and Flex User Group .

12/12/2009 Cleveland Area Adobe User Groups Annual Holiday Social

I have some unfortunate news for this year's Holiday Social. Due to unforeseen circumstances we are unable to have our Annual Holiday Social at the Winking Lizard in Independence this year. I don't want to go into specifics, but I do want to apologize for those of you who enjoyed the event in previous years.

HOWEVER, the managers and co-managers of the Cleveland area Adobe User Groups have been working very hard to carry on the tradition of the Holiday Social despite the set back with the loss of the Winking
Lizard this year. It is with great joy that I can announce to you that the Holiday Social will go on this year! However, things will be a bit different this year.

Dan Vega, our CFUG co-manager, is throwing a party to help out local area children, and he has graciously allowed the Cleveland Area Adobe User Groups access to this event. So, this year, we will join Dan Vega for the 2nd Annual Toys for Shots event. The name Toys for Shots is a cross between Toys for Tots and alcohol shots.

If you would like to attend the Holiday Social this year, we ask that you join us for Toys for Shots. If you bring 1 toy as a donation to Toys for Tots, you will receive TWO drink tickets that you can use. We
thought we would put out a nice little incentive for all attendees to bring a toy. I hope you can come out and join us for an event that is going to be a lot of fun and also helps out a great cause!

We realize that the event is only TWO days away, Saturday, December 12, 2009, at 8:00 p.m., but we are hoping that many of you will be able to make it and help out this great cause.

As a reminder, everyone from the user group who attends Toys for Shots will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win free software from Adobe in our semi-annual software raffle.
